Overview

Annual conference held in South Korea with 25K Attendees accompanied by 2K Staff members. Worked with a global team of 30 members (Videographers, sound engineers, photographers, designers, animators and interns) collaborating with actors, announcers, directors, authors, musicians, stage directors from all over the globe.

A Journey from Event Highlights to Human Stories

What started as an internship quickly blossomed into a passion. I joined the conferences as a part of the media team, tasked with planning, directing, shooting, and editing daily sketch summary videos. Throughout each day, I would capture footage, then swiftly edit it into a video to be showcased at the day's end. This fast-paced, pressure-filled role was immensely rewarding, especially knowing that attendees eagerly awaited these videos, hopeful for even a fleeting appearance.

This challenge pushed me to make the videos more engaging and fun, encouraging attendees to be more open to being filmed. Due to my efforts, the team invited me back the following year, this time to lead the creation of the main sketch summary video for the entire conference. This video, destined for the conference's historical archives, would be shared in the years to come.

Taking on this larger role meant directing a team. Mainly, I had to convey the vision to our cameramen, specifying the type of footage required, the necessary equipment, and the manpower needed for simultaneous events. Additionally, I organized a group for filming interviews, incorporating interpreters to facilitate subtitle creation for our global audience. The challenge of using pre-existing music led us to assemble a team of film composers and sound engineers to create original music, avoiding previous copyright issues.

Our team dedicated countless nights, sacrificing sleep, to craft a video that captured the conference's energy and memories. Though the conference was an annual event with a consistent structure, each year felt entirely new. New faces, new stories, and new challenges emerged, shaped by different venues and programs. Alongside these were new attendees, each with their own unique stories waiting to be captured. Initially, our aim was to encapsulate the conference in the sketch video, but as the years passed, I felt compelled to shift our focus towards the people themselves. Who were they? Where had they come from, and why? This change in perspective enriched our project, turning it into a tapestry of human experiences and emotions, forever preserving the essence of each conference. It was not just a task; it became a testament to our commitment, creativity, and teamwork, showcasing not just the event, but the very souls who breathed life into it.

In line with the shift to concentrate on the individuals at the conference, I expanded our video projects to spotlight the diverse array of participants. We featured artists, educators, politicians, and other notable figures from our community. This approach allowed us to not only document the event itself but also to celebrate the rich tapestry of personalities and talents that brought the conference to life. Through these spotlights, we aimed to create a more intimate and personalized recount of the conference, highlighting the unique contributions and stories of those who made each gathering unforgettable.
